College Football Picks: Will Illinois vs. South Florida get to 52 points?

Will No. 22 South Florida put up a big enough number with Illinois to hit the over when the two teams collide on Friday at 7PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, South Florida is the clear favorite at home, as the Bulls are getting odds of -17.5 points against Illinois. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 51.5 points. These two will play from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The game will air live on ESPN.

South Florida is off to a 2-0 start on the season thanks to a 42-22 win over San Jose State and a 31-17 win over Stoney Brook. The Bulls have hit the under in both games. South Florida has had decent offensive numbers, posting 443.5 yards per game behind a great rushing attack that is averaging 234 yards per contest. Quinton Flowers is off to a great start. He has thrown for 398 yards with four touchdowns while rushing for 137 yards and a score. Darius Tice and D’Ernest Johnson also both have over 100 rushing yards.

Illinois is actually off to a 2-0 start as well. The Illini defeated Ball State 24-21 and Western Kentucky, 20-7. Illinois has hit the under in both games this season. The Illinois defense has been solid thus far, allowing just 309.5 yards per game. However, the offense has been a mess. Illinois is putting up just 258 yards per contest thus far, including just 126 passing yards per contest. Chayce Crouch has 252 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing for 46 yards and a score. Mike Epstein has run for a team-high 165 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Dudek is the leading receiver with 8 catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Bet on Illinois vs. South Florida

While South Florida has hit the over in 9 of its last 11 home games, I like the under for this one. Illinois only has its defense to really rely on. If the Illini are going to compete on Friday, the defense has to be able to slow down the Illinois offense. The Bulls are 4-0-1 with the under in their last five games against the Big Ten. Illinois has hit the under in seven of its last eight non-conference games as well.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PREDICTION: ILLINOIS/SOUTH FLORIDA UNDER 51.5
