Woodley vs Luque betting preview

Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley is on a three-fight losing streak and is coming off a TKO loss to Colby Covington in September. That said, those defeats came against the top fighters in the division in Covington, Gilbert Burns, and Kamaru Usman.

The 38-year-old is still one of the most accomplished welterweights in UFC history, defeating Robbie Lawler for the 170-pound title in 2016 and successfully defending his belt four times before that loss to Usman. The Chosen One is known for his strong defense, wrestling, and explosive power in his hands.

Covers UFC 260 Betting Analysis

Luque enters this fight at No. 10 in the welterweight rankings and is fresh off a second-round knockout victory over Randy Brown last August. The 29-year-old has won eight of his last nine UFC fights with his lone defeat coming by decision to welterweight contender Stephen Thompson in a performance that earned Fight of the Night honors.

The Silent Assassin is a violent fighter who loves to mix it up and combines excellent technical boxing with ferocious power. He also has an underrated ground game with a background in BJJ that he utilized in the Brazilian fight circuit earlier in his MMA career.

Woodley vs Luque UFC predictions and betting picks

PREDICTION: Luque to win by points – Although Woodley’s losing streak has come against the best welterweights in the world, he didn’t just lose those fights, he was dominated across all 15 rounds. Woodley is nothing like the force he was a few years ago, lacking his old explosiveness and looking tentative with a very low output.

Luque has been on a tear with 11 of his last 12 wins coming by stoppage but he has mostly faced opponents who stood up and banged with him. Expect Woodley to try to slow this fight down with his wrestling and even if does take a lot of damage from the younger fighter, don’t expect him to get knocked out. Keep in mind that before Woodley’s previous fight against Covington, he hadn’t been finished in his UFC career, and even that TKO didn’t come until the fifth round, while this bout is scheduled for three.

That said, you can’t win when you’re barely throwing a punch and Woodley has landed just 96 significant strikes in his last 71 minutes in the octagon. Expect the more active and superior striker in Luque to get the win but with Woodley’s defense, it should come down to the judges’ cards.
