2021 NHL MVP Odds: McDavid Remains on Top

We’re fresh into a new season and one of the league’s biggest superstars is already separating himself from the pack atop the NHL MVP odds leaderboard.

Odds to win the Hart Trophy can change rapidly based on a hot stretch or injury and we’ve already witnessed some movement over the last couple of weeks. There hasn’t been any change in the top spot, but a couple of players behind the leader have seen their odds to win the NHL MVP award increase. 

Let’s take a look at who has the best Hart Trophy odds as we inch closer to March. 

Favorite to win the NHL MVP award

Connor McDavid remains the favorite to win the NHL MVP award at +140 odds. The Edmonton Oilers star leads the NHL in points, as of February 18, and already has one Hart Trophy to his name.

His odds have increased since February 6 when he was +200, and a new pair of players now follow him to round out the top three. 

Toronto Maple Leafs sniper Auston Matthews is second at +550, while McDavid’s teammate and last season’s MVP winner Leon Draisaitl is third at +900.

Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand and Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche are among the other favorites for the award, while everyone else is over +1,000 odds.

Most sportsbooks will display odds in the American format as listed above. When the regular season is nearly finished and a consensus has emerged, you might see a player with a minus sign (-) ahead of his odds, like this:

The (-) means that McDavid is the odds-on favorite, and a bettor would need to wager $400 to win $100. Other contenders in the MVP race might have plus (+) odds to win.
