Starting pitchers

Dylan Bundy (0-2, 4.50 ERA): In Bundy’s first start against the Astros this season, he struck out 10 batters and gave up just four hits and two walks across six innings. However, he was left with a no decision in a 4-2 Houston win. The righty has gone 0-2 since then, giving up 12 hits and eight runs across 12 innings, with 12 strikeouts over that stretch.

Lance McCullers Jr. (1-1, 5.27 ERA): Like Bundy, McCullers has been handed the loss in each of his last two starts, though they came in quite different circumstances. The Astros were unable to muster any offense in a loss to the Athletics, with McCullers given the L despite allowing just two hits and one run across five innings. His next loss was much more emphatic, with the righty giving up six runs before he was yanked after 3 2-3 innings against the Tigers.

Moneyline pick

Both of these AL East outfits entered their series in rough form, but the Astros have at least been able to get back on track this week. The Angels entered the series losers of four of their last six, while the Astros had lost nine of 10 games. Houston was able to take the first three games in this series, including a 16-2 throttling of L.A. on Saturday.

Houston has maintained its good form against L.A. on the year, as it’s now 4-1 against its divisional rivals on the season. The Astros have found much-needed success at the plate in this series, too, averaging 9.6 runs per game after bringing just 2.6 runners home per game over their last 10. They had a bright start to the series at the plate even before Saturday’s 18-hit, 16-run explosion.

L.A. has had no problem at the plate this year, as it ranks in the Top-6 in the majors in batting average, runs per game and on-base percentage. Their pitching, however, has been dreadful, with the fourth-worst ERA as a team in the majors and it has not looked any better in Houston — and they’ll come into this one on the heels of an epic pitching meltdown Saturday.

With the Astros’ bats coming alive over this series, we’re backing them to sweep the series with a win on Sunday.

PREDICTION: Astros (-125)

Covers MLB betting analysis

Over/Under pick

Both Houston and Los Angeles have ridden below average pitching with solid batting to reward Over bettors often in the early parts of 2021, with the Angels 11-7 O/U and the Astros 11-7-1.

For as much as Los Angeles’ pitching has struggled, giving up the second-most runs per nine innings in the majors, it has been outstanding at the plate led by a pair of MVP candidates in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. As a team, the Angels have the second-highest batting average and the third-highest on-base percentage, while bringing in the fifth-most runs per nine innings at 5.10.

Houston’s pitching has been more toward league-average on the year, and despite a quiet stretch at the plate ahead of this series, it remains a Top-10 lineup in runs per nine innings, batting average and on-base percentage.

The season series between these two has produced a 4-1 O/U record, with the Under coming in a great start from Zack Greinke. With two middling starters taking to the mound and Houston swinging it well at the moment, we’re sticking with the Over.

PREDICTION: Over 8.5 (-103)
