Auburn Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels, 10/17/18 Predictions & Odds

The Auburn Tigers are in a state of disarray right now but they have no time to wallow because they have another road game coming up Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET versus Ole Miss. Even given the Rebels defensive issues, is the under still a good bet in this matchup?

Game Snapshot

399 Auburn Tigers at 400 Ole Miss Rebels

Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, Mississippi

Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Tigers are 3.5-point favorites to beat the Rebels. The total, meanwhile, sits at 44.5 points. As of this writing, 61% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Tigers.

Auburn Tigers

Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline lists Auburn redshirt junior QB Jarett Stidham as his Week 7 slider after his performance against Tennessee on Saturday. Stidham did throw for 322 yards and two scores on Saturday, but he completed just 28-of-45 passes, threw two interceptions, and Auburn lost to Tennessee. “Off the 2017 film I firmly believed Stidham could challenge to be one of the first quarterbacks selected in the 2019 draft if he opted to turn pro.,” writes Pauline. “Based off his play of 2018, Stidham’s best option is returning to Auburn for another season.” He does note that the 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback has dealt with a disappointing offensive line and inconsistent options in the passing game, but the first-round talk for Stidham has all but evaporated.

Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss senior QB Jordan Ta’amu completed 26-of-35 passes for 387 yards with two touchdowns and interception, and ran for 141 yards and a score in a 37-33 victory over Arkansas on Saturday. Some of this yardage was out of necessity. Ole Miss trailed 27-10 at one point, and were in danger of blowing out of the water. Ta’amu wasn’t having it. He was outstanding — particularly in the second half — and Arkansas had no answers over the final 30 minutes for his underrated speed and arm. Take away his ugly efforts against Alabama and LSU, and the senior signal-caller has been outstanding in 2018. A winnable game against Auburn comes up next Saturday.

Betting Trends

Auburn

The under is 15-5-2 in the Tigers’ last 22 games coming off an ATS loss.

Ole Miss

The over is 7-0-1 in the Rebels’ last eight games played in October.

Prediction

Auburn’s struggling offense will get a boost on Saturday by taking on Ole Miss’ horrendous defense. The Rebels rank 110th in the nation in points allowed, surrendering 35.1 per game this season. They’re also 120th in passing yards allowed, 122nd in total yards and 112th in rushing yards allowed. This is one of the worst defenses in the nation, not just the SEC. The over is 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams in Oxford and is 7-2 in the last nine meetings between these two teams overall. The over is also 12-3 in the Rebels’ last 15 home games and 10-3 in their last 13 conference matchups.

College Football Prediction: Auburn/TCU over 62.5
