Puck line pick

Colorado wrapped up the regular season with the best point percentage (.732) and the second-best goal differential (plus-64) in the NHL. The Avalanche have been terrific on both ends of the ice and are Stanley Cup favorites for good reason but the odds for this game look a bit too lopsided in their favor.

Let’s not forget that the Blues are just two years removed from a Stanley Cup win, have plenty of depth and experience, and rank fourth in the league with a faceoff win percentage of 53.4.

While the Blues rank a modest 13th in the league in both goals scored and allowed with an identical 2.98 goals per game, they’ve been much more competitive when Jordan Binnington and his 2.65 goals-against average starts in nets over backup Ville Husso (3.21 GAA).

Binnington made 41 starts for the Blues during the regular season and St. Louis lost by more than one goal in just seven of those games.

The Avalanche went 5-3 in eight regular-season meetings against the Blues this season. The Avs won by a single goal in three of those five wins, with another victory coming by two goals only because of a last-minute empty netter.

Colorado might be the better team but being able to back a playoff-tested underdog on the puck line at -110 is simply too good to pass up.

PREDICTION: St. Louis +1.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

While many teams have an added emphasis on defense during the postseason, the Avalanche are actually 9-1 O/U in their last 10 playoff games as a favorite.

The Blues have also been going above the total against strong opponents, going 5-2 to the Over in their last seven games against teams with a winning record.

St. Louis wrapped up the regular season by scoring 11 goals in two games against the Minnesota Wild and averaged 3.65 goals per game over its final 17 contests.

The Avs led the NHL in with 3.52 gpg during the regular season and will get a boost from the expected return of leading scorer Nathan MacKinnon, who missed four of the last five games with various ailments.

Both of these squads have also been productive on the powerplay, with St. Louis ranking sixth in the league and Colorado ranking eighth. Take the Over.

PREDICTION: Over 5.5 (+100)
