Red Sox beat up by O’s

Boston was beat up by Baltimore on Friday night, suffering an 11-2 loss to the Orioles to open the series. Boston is 53-45 on the year, 29-20 on the road and 56-39 with the over. The Sox have Rick Porcello taking the mound today. He is 7-7 on the season with a 5.37 ERA.

David Price was surprisingly beat up on Friday night, giving up six runs over four innings. He fell to 7-3 on the year. Both Boston relievers combined to give up five runs over four innings as well. The Sox had just seven hits at the plate on Friday. Sam Travis drove in both runs on a two-run home run.

Orioles surprise in opener

Baltimore had a surprising 11-2 win to open the series on Friday night. The Orioles are now 30-66 on the year, 14-35 at home and 47-44 with the over. Baltimore has Thomas Eshelman on the mound this evening. He is 0-1 on the season with a 5.06 ERA.

Baltimore had an offensive outburst on Friday, putting up 11 runs on 14 hits. Anthony Santander had two hits with a home run, three runs and three RBI. Keon Braxton also had two hits, two runs and two RBI while going yard as well. On the mound, John Means got the win to improve to 8-5 on the year. He threw six innings and allowed just two runs on four hits.

MLB Betting Trends

Boston

The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last five games following a loss and 5-1 in Porcello’s last six road starts.

Baltimore

The Orioles are 15-38 in their last 53 home games and 29-70 in their last 99 division games.

Prediction:

Porcello has hit a big rough patch. He has allowed 21 runs over his last four starts, just 18 innings of work. Three of those starts were against weak lineups like the Blue Jays and Tigers. Eshelman doesn’t have great numbers, giving up six runs over two starts, but he has been competitive. Boston is flirting with the .500 mark a little too much. They aren’t the dominant team that oddsmakers are making them and it showed last night when they got rocked by Baltimore with a good pitcher on the mound. Today, they have a shaky pitcher on the mound on the road and are being given far too great of odds.

MLB Prediction: Baltimore Orioles +190
