Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin
Rafael Devers set a record in the modern era of baseball Tuesday, becoming the first player to collect four doubles in a six-hit game as the Red Sox outlasted the Indians 7-6 in 10 innings. The Indians literally could not get Devers out, as the 22-year-old third baseman had a hit in each of his six at-bats in the contest. Two of those hits, an RBI double in the first and a two-run double in the sixth, plated runs, and Devers also scored a run in the game. A six-hit night can’t hurt your batting line, and indeed Devers’ season line has soared back up to .328/.374/.579 with 24 homers, 93 RBI, 96 runs scored and eight steals in 118 games. We don’t talk about Devers as an MVP candidate — or even as one of the best players on his own team — but perhaps we should change that.
Cleveland Indians Fantasy Spin
Carlos Santana went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in Tuesday’s extra-innings loss to the Red Sox. Santana made it a third straight game with a homer when he lined a Chris Sale delivery over the wall in center field in the fourth inning. The 33-year-old has absolutely been on fire since the calendar turned to August, hitting .372 with four homers, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored with half a month still left to play. The good stretch has his overall line up to a healthy .288/.409/.538 with 27 homers, 72 RBI and 85 runs scored.
MLB Betting Trends
Boston
The Red Sox are 16-6 in Brian Johnson’s last 22 starts but are just 1-10 in their last 11 games when their opponent scores five runs or more in their previous game.
Cleveland
The Indians have won 23 of Shane Bieber’s last 32 starts and are 8-3 in his last 11 outings at home.
Prediction:
The over is 12-3-3 in the last 18 meetings between these two teams and is 5-1 in the last six meetings at Progressive Field. The over has also cashed in nine of Johnson’s last 11 starts and is 36-16-1 in the Red Sox’ last 53 games. Meanwhile, the over is 11-4 in the Indians’ last 15 games versus American League East opponents and is 9-2 in their last 11 home games versus a left-handed starter.
