The New York Yankees welcomed the Boston Red Sox to the Bronx in a rather rude fashion on Friday night by routing their rivals 8-1. Will the Yankees pull off the upset on Saturday night when the BoSox counter with Chris Sale?

Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list the Red Sox as a -150 favorite. As of this writing, 73% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Red Sox to beat the Yankees on the moneyline. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on this game.

Red Sox Sale strikes out 13 in dominant start vs. Mariners

Chris Sale punched out 13 batters across seven shutout frames in the Red Sox’ 5-0 victory over the Mariners on Sunday. Sale got a whopping 26 swinging strikes in this one as he whiffed double-digit batters for the second start in a row and sixth time in 17 outings this season. The Mariners managed just four hits and one walk against the southpaw and Sale needed just 93 pitches to cruise through his seven innings even with all of the strikeouts. Sale has a big matchup in Yankee Stadium waiting for him his next time out.

Yankees’ Gray coming off yet another inconsistent start

Sonny Gray surrendered four runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings in Saturday’s loss to the Rays. It wasn’t all bad for Gray, who provided the Yankees a measure of length while striking out seven against just one walk. As has often been the case this season, though, the bad outweighed the good. Jake Bauers knocked him for an RBI double in the first inning, with two more runs scoring in the second inning before Gray stemmed the bleeding. Willy Adames came through with a solo home run in the seventh to account for the final run on the right-hander’s line. Gray’s turned in less effective outings this season, but the reality is that the Yankees needed him to step up on Saturday with their offense in a rare cool spell. It just didn’t happen. He’ll try for more encouraging results when he brings his unwieldy 4.93 ERA and 1.44 WHIP into a potentially troublesome home date with the Red Sox next time he toes the rubber.

MLB Betting Trends

Boston

The Red Sox are 15-6 in their last 21 games coming off a loss.

New York

The Yankees have won 49 of their last 63 games played at home.

Prediction:

I’m going to take the Red Sox tonight but I’m going to take them on the runline so we’re at least getting some value. The current Yankees roster has 103 career plate appearances versus Sale. Over those 103 plate appearances, they own a .237 batting average and Sale has a 1.13 FIP. That’s incredible. On the other side, Boston’s current roster has 141 plate appearances versus Gray. He owns a 5.35 FIP with just a 20.6% strikeout rate. This pitching matchup is a mismatch and I like Boston’s bats to wake up after CC Sabathia shut them down last night.

The Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5 (+110)
