Cubs avoid sweep at Pirates

Chicago rolled to an 11-3 victory Thursday in its series finale at Pittsburgh to avoid a four-game sweep. Kris Bryant helped pace the offense as he went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two doubles and three runs scored. Willson Contreras ended the game 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Albert Almora Jr. finished 1-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored. Robel Garcia went 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Jose Quintana picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one. Jon Lester starts tonight for the Cubs as he comes in with a 7-6 record, 3.89 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 90 strikeouts over 88 innings.

White Sox unable to complete sweep

Chicago fell 11-5 Thursday afternoon in its home series finale with Detroit after winning the first two games of the series. Jose Rondon helped lead the White Sox offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Leury Garcia was 4-for-5 and scored a run. Eloy Jimenez finished the game 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. James McCann went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored against his former team. Reynaldo Lopez took the loss as he allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 5 1/3 innings. Lucas Giolito gets the start today for the White Sox as he enters with an 11-3 record, 2.72 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with 115 strikeouts over 96 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs are 1-4 in their last five road games. The Cubs are 7-1 in the last eight Lester interleague starts.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox are 5-2 in their last seven games overall. The White Sox are 6-0 in the last six Giolito home starts.

Prediction:

Given how poor the Cubs have been playing on the road and how good of a season Giolito has had, I have a definite White Sox lean here. Lester has been inconsistent this season and faces a White Sox lineup that is suited to mash against lefties. Going with the small dogs here behind one of the best pitchers in baseball this season.
