Chicago White Sox Fantasy Spin

Jose Abreu blasted a three-run home run in a losing effort against the Royals on Saturday afternoon in Kansas City. Abreu’s three-run shot off of Royals’ starter Jakob Junis got the White Sox on the board in the sixth inning, pulling them to within a run at 4-3. It was his lone hit on the afternoon, finishing the day 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Through his first two games, Abreu is hitting .250 (2-for-8) with three RBI.

Kansas City Royals Fantasy Spin

Jorge Soler went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI as the Royals defeated the White Sox 8-6 on Saturday afternoon in Kansas City. Soler contributed an RBI double in the fourth inning that extended the Royals’ advantage to 4-0. He then came through with a two-run double off of Jace Fry in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Soler has hit the ground running after an impressive showing in Cactus League play, hitting .714 (5-for-7) with five RBI through his first two games. If he’s available on the waiver wire in shallow leagues, now may be the time to pounce.

MLB Betting Trends

The White Sox have won five of Giolito’s last six starts versus the Royals.

Kansas City

The Royals are 4-1 in their last five games against the White Sox and have taken six out of seven between the two clubs at Kauffman Stadium.

These matchups are also difficult to project because while we have two pitchers that are capable of allowing a ton of runs, neither offense is potent. Yesterday I liked the under and the two teams combined to score 14 runs. Jorge Lopez will face a Chicago offense that owns a 25.8% strikeout rate, which is high. That said, he’s a groundball pitcher with below-average walk and strikeout rates. Giolito, meanwhile, will face a Kansas City offense that strikes out 20.9% of the time but he really struggled with walks last season. In the end, I’ll side with offense. The over is 5-1 in Giolito’s last six starts overall and is 4-0 in Lopez’s last four home outings.

The Pick: White Sox/Royals over 8.5
