Clemson vs. Wake Forest Week 2, 9/12/20 College Football Betting Predictions

ACC foes square off tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET when Wake Forest hosts Clemson in the season-opener’s for both programs. Laying 34 points as a road favorite, are the defending conference champion Tigers worth a play for bettors?

Clemson Tigers Game Notes

Clemson senior WR Amari Rodgers said that he’s in the best shape of his career. “I got my knee back right, and have been working on my speed almost the whole break. I’m always working on my craft, I feel like I’ve hit a new level and ready to show off this year,” Rodgers said, referencing the torn ACL he suffered last spring. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound senior made it back from that injury in accelerated fashion, returning just after the start of the 2019 campaign and going on to log a 30-426-4 receiving line across 13 games played. The Tigers will need Rodgers now more than ever with Tee Higgins off to the NFL and would-be WR1 Justyn Ross down for the fall count with a neck injury.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons Game Notes

Wake Forest redshirt senior G Terrance Davis has been ruled out for the season with an undisclosed injury per HC Dave Clawson. Davis (6’3/325) was not listed on the depth chart released ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Clemson, which came as no surprise given the fact that he was dealing with an injury. But the Demon Deacons won’t have the redshirt senior, who joined the program as a grad transfer from Maryland back in January, at all in 2020. Due to the eligibility rules put into place due to COVID-19, Davis should have the opportunity to return next season.

Clemson vs. Wake Forest Betting Prediction

If you’re playing this one, the only selection in my eyes is the Tigers despite laying the big number. Clemson is 11-2 against the spread in its last 13 road games, is 10-1 against the number in its last 11 road games when favorited and is 19-7-1 at the betting window in its last 27 conference matchups. On the other side, the overmatched Demon Deacons are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games dating back to last year and are 2-6 against the number in their last eight games as a home dog. Wake might hang for a quarter, but eventually Trevor Lawrence and Co. will get rolling and it’ll be all downhill from that point forward. I know it’s a big number, but Clemson should have no issues covering, assuming the Tigers don’t take their foot off the gas late and allow a late score in garbage time.
