Chants of “Cheaters” filled Minute Maid Park thanks to the many Los Angeles Dodgers fans in attendance for Game 1 of the Dodgers’ first game there since the Houston Astros cheating scandal came to light.

L.A. took the opener in convincing fashion and now hands the ball to noted cheater-hater Trevor Bauer for Game 2. The reigning National League Cy Young winner will attempt to take out the trash in his first start against the Astros since 2019.

Dodgers vs Astros betting preview

Starting pitchers

Trevor Bauer (5-2, 1.98 ERA): Bauer will look to exact a measure of revenge against the Astros and has all the tools to do so. The right-hander has been brilliant to start his Dodgers career, pitching to a 1.57 ERA and limiting opponents to a .479 OPS over his last nine starts, having not given up more than two earned runs in a start over that span.

Luis Garcia (2-3, 3.38 ERA): The Astros rookie is coming off back-to-back wins, the first two of his career. While the right-hander averages less than 4.5 innings per start, he has not allowed more than three earned runs in any game this season and owns a solid 1.10 WHIP while limiting opponents to a .200 batting average.

Runline pick

With the win in the opener, the Dodgers extended their winning streak to eight straight games and 12 of their last 13 overall. As has been the case throughout this hot steak, L.A.’s bats came to play. The Dodgers put up nine runs in yesterday’s win and are plating 6.0 runs per game over this 13-game stretch.

That lineup will now match up against rookie Luis Garcia. The right-hander has been solid for a Houston rotation that has been riddled with injuries, but Garcia hasn’t faced a lineup as deep as the Dodgers’ yet this season.

L.A. also limited a hot Astros lineup to just two runs on six hits, and now Trevor Bauer gets his chance to show the ‘Stros how hard it can be to hit elite pitching when you don’t know what’s coming.

Bauer has not been silent about his disdain for the Astros ever since they got caught cheating, and comes into this game dealing. To start, opponents are hitting just .140 off Bauer this season. He has also not allowed an earned run over his last 16 1-3 innings, where he has allowed just four hits while striking out 25.

Trash can or no, the Astros are a talented team but have lost four straight, scoring just 3.25 runs per game over that span and Bauer has had this game marked on his calendar for a while. Expect some K struts on the way to a multi-run Dodgers win.

PREDICTION: Dodgers -1.5 (+120)

Over/Under pick

At 8.5, we get the same total for the second game in this interleague series as we did in the opener. And just like in the opener, we like the Dodgers’ bats to carry this one above the number.

As noted, the Dodgers bats are roaring right now and have scored at least four runs nine times over the last 13 games and they should have some opportunities against Garcia. The other thing about Garcia is that he typically doesn’t go long into games and will have to hand the ball to what has been an inconsistent Astros bullpen. On top of that, it will be without one of its top arms after Kent Emanuel left yesterday’s game with elbow discomfort.

And while we’re expecting Bauer to have another strong performance in this one, the Dodgers bullpen has also proven to be shaky at times and this Astros team still ranks first in the MLB in runs per game and batting average.

PREDICTION: Over 8.5 (-110)
