Edwards vs Muhammad betting preview

Leon “Rocky” Edwards comes into this match on an eight-fight winning streak but hasn’t fought since a unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos in July of 2019. Despite his inactivity, he is still the No. 3-ranked welterweight and has called out contenders like Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington, while hunting for a title shot against current champ Kamaru Usman—the last man to beat him.

Edwards is a very well-rounded fighter who combines good kickboxing with solid wrestling technique and excellent clinch-work.

The UFC had been trying to pit Edwards against rising welterweight Khamzat Chimaev, but after three cancellations, the promotion has finally moved on with Belal “Remember the Name” Muhammad stepping in to take this fight on short notice.

Muhammad is No. 13 in the welterweight rankings and is fresh off a unanimous decision win against Dhiego Lima last month, so he’s already in fighting shape. Muhammad has four wins in a row and is 8-1 in his last nine fights. The 32-year-old is more comfortable on the mat, where he can rely on his wrestling.

Edwards vs Muhammad UFC predictions and betting pick

PREDICTION: Edwards (-265) – Despite his impressive winning streak, Edwards has received criticism for the quality of his opponents during that span. That said, beating RDA and Vicente Luque is more impressive than any of Muhammad’s wins.

It might be easier to remember his name if Muhammad didn’t get picked apart whenever he faced ranked foes like Luque and Geoff Neal.

While Edwards is seen as a jack of all trades, master of none, the best aspect of his game is his clinch work. That’s bad news for Muhammad, who needs to get his hands on his opponents in order to implement his own style.

Muhammad is a strong wrestler but he isn’t good enough to overpower Edwards in that department, while Rocky will have the edge when striking at distance and in the clinch.

PREDICTION: Edwards to win by points +100 – Besides the level of his competition, the other reason Edwards doesn’t get much love from fans (or Dana White) is his lack of finishing ability. Edwards has good hands but he has rarely shown knockout power at the UFC level.

The Brit is a points fighter, with seven of his last nine wins coming by decision. Consider that method to win prop for a better payout than the moneyline.

PREDICTION: Fight to go the distance – Yes -186 – Edwards might not have much stopping power but neither does Muhammad, who prefers to rely on his wrestling to grind out victories. As a matter of fact, Muhammad issued a warning to Edwards saying, “I’m gonna be in your face five freaking rounds, 25 minutes.”

When a fighter flexes by saying his upcoming fight will go the distance…you know he can’t buy a finish.

Eight of Muhammad’s last nine fights have gone to the judges’ cards while Edwards has gone the distance in eight of his previous ten. Even with this bout scheduled for 25 minutes as a main event, and the increased action in the smaller Apex octagon, this is the obvious play when it comes to round betting.
