Public Betting Trends

According to our MLB Public Betting Chart page, 73% of the betting tickets are on the Astros to beat the Cardinals on the moneyline.

Houston Astros Fantasy Spin

Carlos Correa (rib) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his return from the injured list Friday against the Cardinals. Correa ended up missing two months with a fractured rib which he suffered while getting a massage. He hit .333 (7-for-21) with three doubles during his minor league rehab assignment, but it’s understandable if there’s some rust out of the gate.

St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin

Paul Goldschmidt homered in his fifth straight game — this time with a go-ahead three-run shot off Ryan Pressly in the eighth inning — to lead the Cardinals to a 5-3 win over the Astros. Make that the first-place Cardinals. Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with two runs scored on the night, finally resembling the player St. Louis thought they were getting in their deal with Arizona over the winter. Prior to this streak, Goldy had never homered in more than three straight games. He’s now up to 23 homers on the year to go along with a .256/.341/.462 batting line.

MLB Betting Trends

Houston

The Astros have won seven of their last nine overall and five of seven coming off a loss.

St. Louis

The Cardinals are now 12-2 in their last 14 games overall and have won five of six at home.

Prediction:

Even though these two teams played under the total last night and the outstanding Gerrit Cole is on the mound for Houston tonight, I like the over. Speaking of Cole, the over is 5-2 in his last seven road starts and is 4-1 in his last five starts when he faces a team with a winning record. Daniel Ponce De Leon will start for the Cardinals and he has struggled in his last two outings. The Astros are not the offense you want to face if you’re a starting pitcher struggling to find your game.

The Pick: Astros/Cardinals OVER 8.5
