Public Betting Trends

According to our MLB Public Betting Chart page, 68% of the betting tickets are on the Astros to beat the Cardinals on the moneyline.

Houston Astros Fantasy Spin

George Springer went 1-for-4 with a two-run triple on Saturday in a win over the Cardinals. Springer just missed — and when we say just missed, we mean inches — from hitting a three-run homer, but he was able to turn it into a three-run triple after the ball caromed off of the wall. On top of that three-bagger, Springer also drew a walk, and he’s now slashing an outstanding .291/.378/.585 with with 23 homers, 60 RBI and five steals in 73 appearances.

St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin

Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in a loss to the Astros on Saturday. This is getting fun. As if it wasn’t already. Goldschmidt hit his homer in the second inning to make it 6-1 Astros, and it’s the 24th homer and 57 RBI of the season for the first baseman. He’s also now homered in six straight games, which is just two short of the record held by Dale Long, Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey Jr. After a slow start, Goldschmidt now has a .256/.340/.608 line, and he’s hit 10 homers in the month of July alone. He’s back.

MLB Betting Trends

Houston

The Astros are 4-1 in Wade Miley’s last five starts and are 9-2 in his last 11 outings following a Quality Start in his last appearance.

St. Louis

Despite losing on Saturday, the Cards are still an impressive 6-1 in their last seven games overall and are 5-2 in their last seven games coming off a loss.

Prediction:

There should be plenty of runs scored today at Busch. The over is a perfect 4-0 in Greg Gibson’s last four games behind home plate and 5-2 in his seven games behind the dish this season. The over is also 5-2 in the Astros’ last seven road games versus a right-handed starter and 15-5-1 in the Cardinals’ last 21 home games versus a southpaw. With Houston healthy again and players like Goldschmidt hot at the dish for St. Louis, I see a relatively high-scoring affair today in the STL.

The Pick: Astros/Cardinals OVER 9.5
