It’s a getaway day in the MLB today and that means there are a plethora of MLB prop bets to wager on all day long. That includes taking a look at Atlanta Braves’ superstar Ronald Acuna and his red-hot bat.

After a bit of a slow start, Acuna is tearing the cover off the ball and gets a juicy matchup against a Miami Marlins rookie starter. Plus, is there added value with the Philadelphia Phillies as Zack Wheeler goes up against his former team?

We bring you that and more with our best MLB free prop bets and predictions for Wednesday, April 14.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Griffin Canning Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-130)

We are going back to the well with Los Angeles Angels starter strikeout props after Dylan Bundy came through for us yesterday despite not having his best stuff. This afternoon it’s Griffin Canning’s turn to rack up the Ks against the Kansas City Royals.

Canning is coming off a solid 2020 campaign which saw him pitch to a 3.99 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP while winning a gold glove. The right-hander allowed four runs on three hits in his first start of 2021 but was able to record seven strikeouts in 5 1-3 innings of work against another swing-happy team in the Blue Jays. Canning did that by elevating his fastball and then throwing his filthy slider down in the zone.

While KC only struck out six times last night, they still rank 28th in the MLB when it comes to strikeouts per game, getting punched out 10.44 times per contest. Griffin is a solid bet to eclipse his number.

Phillies Five-Inning ML (+110)

People scoffed at the Philadelphia Phillies for handing Zack Wheeler a huge contract back in the 2019 offseason. Was he really worth $24 million a year? Well, though 13 starts with the Phillies, the returns have been good.

The right-hander pitched to a 2.92 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in 2020, finishing 12th in CY Young voting and he has carried that momentum over to 2021. Wheeler has a 2.31 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in his first two starts (both against the Braves) and now goes against his former team in the New York Mets, who are off to a slow start on offense.

The Mets were supposed to be much improved on offense this year, but so far are scoring just 3.7 runs per game and are dealing with a handful of injuries.

Meanwhile, New York hands the ball to up-and-coming starter David Peterson, who got rocked, however, in his first start of the season, giving up six runs on seven hits in just four innings to this same Phillies team last time out.

The Phillies have a nice edge in starters here and are hitting a little better than the Mets so far this season. They should have the lead through five innings in this one.

Ronald Acuna Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases (-120)

Remember the Atlanta Braves’ slow start to the season on offense? Well, Ronald Acuna Jr. sure doesn’t. The Braves’ superstar is now tearing the cover off the ball: Acuna Jr. has hit safely in seven of his last eight games. He has six multi-hit games this season. And has at least one extra-base hit in seven games this season. The dude is just locked in.

Today he goes up against Miami Marlins rookie Nick Neidert. The 24-year-old right-hander is making just the second start of his career and was a little rocky in his debut, as he gave up just one run on three hits to the Mets in 4 1-3 innings but he also surrendered five walks—and missing your spots against Acuna is not recommended.

After he’s done for the day, Neidert will then hand the ball off to a questionable bullpen. Bet Acuna to go Over his total bases prop once again.
