We head into another weekend of baseball betting with 14 games on the schedule tonight, which means there will be no shortage of MLB props to choose from.

Will Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani get to tonight’s game on time in order for us to play his strikeout prop? And can the Dodgers keep crushing at the dish as they continue their series with the San Francisco Giants?

We break down and pick those games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Friday, May 28.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Blue Jays -0.5 Five-Inning Runline (-110)

The Toronto Blue Jays couldn’t have been happier with Alek Manoah’s MLB debut. The right-hander shut out the Yankees, at Yankee Stadium, over six innings while striking out seven.

Now, they’ll be the ones facing a pitcher making his first career start as Cleveland hands the ball to rookie Eli Morgan for the opening game of their weekend series at Progressive Field.

Now, Morgan comes into this game not as highly-touted as Manoah, but he has had success at every minor league level. The right-hander is a control pitcher with a mix of four pitches, but this is a tough matchup for his debut.

The Blue Jays lineup is as dangerous as there is in the Big Leagues, led by a red-hot Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Marcus Semien. They rank fifth in batting average and OPS against right-handers this season.

To make matters worse for Morgan, he might not get much support in this one. Hyun-jin Ryu goes opposite him and the Jays’ ace is in a groove right now.

Ryu has pitched three straight quality starts with a 1.31 ERA and an 0.92 WHIP and faces a Cleveland lineup that ranks 26th in batting average and 28th in OPS when it comes to facing lefties. The Jays are great value to have the lead through five.

Shohei Ohtani Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-115)

OK. Let’s try this again.

Sho-time was delayed by traffic of all things yesterday but Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani is set to make his seventh start of the season when he takes the ball against the Oakland A’s Friday.

Ohtani is coming off an up-and-down performance against Cleveland where his fastball velocity was down. He lasted just 4 2-3 innings while striking out five, but he ended up allowing just two runs on five hits.

That game brought Ohtani’s ERA up to 2.37, but he’s still striking out 13.4 batters per nine innings and limiting opponents to a .146 batting average. Now, he faces a middling Oakland offense that ranks 26th in batting average and 15th in strikeouts per game.

Ohtani proved he can get punchouts against patient teams when he struck out 10 Astros earlier this season, and his five Ks last time out was his lowest output in 2021. In that game, it looked like he was dialing back on the velocity a bit for a little more control.

It worked in a sense, as he walked just two batters, but expect the velo to jump back up in this one. Prior to that, Ohtani had gone over this strikeout number in all six of his starts.

Dodgers Team Total Over 4.5 (+105)

Remember when some people were worried about the Los Angeles Dodgers during their early-season slump? Well, that was dumb.

The Dodgers are who we thought they were and are now one of the hottest teams in baseball. L.A. has gone 13-2 over their last 15 games and is just a half-game behind the San Diego Padres for first place in the National League West.

Friday, the Dodgers continue their series against the team that was in first place for a while, the San Francisco Giants. The Giants have lost four straight games against the Dodgers to start the season and they hand the ball to Anthony DeSclafani to end that skid.

DeSclafani is having a resurgent season by The Bay but the right-hander might be in for a bit of a regression. DeSclafani is a career .500 pitcher with a 4.23 ERA and is coming off a game against this same Dodgers lineup, who hammered him for 10 runs on nine hits in just 2 2-3 innings.

While you shouldn’t expect DeSclafani to be that bad again, his advanced stats are showing that he isn’t missing a ton of barrels and as a result is getting hit hard. This isn’t great against a Dodgers lineup that ranks second in batting average, and OPS against right-handers and is scoring 5.6 runs per game over that 15-game stretch.
