Nikola Vucevic hauls in 10.7 boards per game and is a great bet to top his 9.5 rebounds Over/Under against a Toronto squad that doesn’t have much muscle inside.

Today feels like the calm before the storm.

As Covers steadily rolls out our legions of Super Bowl content, it’s like preparing for the year’s biggest party, and this Sunday feels pretty mundane compared to what the sports betting world will be experiencing in a week’s time.

Despite this, Sunday’s NBA odds still yield some great-value spots, and we’ve tracked them down to help you maximize your basketball bets for today.

Let’s check out our best free NBA picks and predictions for Sunday, January 31.

NBA Picks for Today

Utah Jazz vs Denver Nuggets

The Utah Jazz happen to be playing today, making one of our picks automatic.

What Utah is doing to the rest of the NBA right now lies somewhere between aggravated arson and Daenerys Targaryen’s sack of King’s Landing. The Jazz have won 11 straight games, covering in each and every one of them. Their average margin of victory over that stretch is a completely silly 15.63.

Utah’s getting it done on both ends of the court, ranking third in defensive rating, and fifth on offense. They’re the only team in the NBA to rank inside the Top 5 in both categories.

After a sluggish start, the Nuggets have won five of six, covering in each of those wins. But their altitude advantage means less against the Jazz than any other team, and Utah is simply playing too well to fade.

Donovan Mitchell may again be absent with concussion symptoms (listed as questionable), but his status is baked into the line, and Utah just waxed a well-coached Dallas Mavericks team in back-to-back games without him. Trying to fade the Jazz here, getting points no less, is just over-thinking it.

PREDICTION: Utah +2 (-110)

Los Angeles Clippers vs New York Knicks

212 isn’t an entirely appealing total to be hammering the Under on, but pretty much every single aspect of this matchup suggests that’s where we’re headed.

For starters, the Knicks and Clippers are the two slowest-paced teams in the league, with New York logging almost two fewer possessions than L.A., the largest such gap between teams. This game should be a serious slog.

Another incentive for the Under: both of these squads are Top-10 defenses, with the Knicks ranking sixth in defensive efficiency, and the Clippers ninth. It’s doubly-difficult to rack up points at a slow pace when neither team is budging much.

Taking things a step further, the Knicks score by far the fewest points in the NBA at 101.5 per game. The ‘Bockers also allow the fewest points (102.7), a category in which the Clippers are fourth (106.3). Over L.A.’s past seven games, that number dips to 100.14 – suggesting the Knicks will be that much harder-pressed to test them.

The Clippers have been regularly blowing teams out on their current 9-1 SU stretch, and we could see their foot come off the gas early if this one gets out of hand. Embrace the Under, and maybe skip watching this one if you’re into exciting basketball.

PREDICTION: Under 212 (-109)

Orlando Magic vs Toronto Raptors

We finish today’s NBA action off with a bastardized version of the Battle of Florida, as the Raptors “host” the Magic in their makeshift Tampa Bay digs.

The Raptors have been one of the worst teams on the glass this season, ranking 24th in rebounding rate. This is largely due to an anemic presence on the glass from their centers, among whom Chris Boucher grabs a team-high 6.3 boards per game.

This leaves plenty of value in Magic center Nikola Vucevic’s rebounding market. Vooch is perennially among the league leaders in double-doubles, clocking 10.7 boards per game this season, but his Over/Under for this game is set at an (albeit juiced) 9.5.

Backing him to go Over that low bar against a team that struggles banging on the boards with big men seems fairly automatic. Don’t be surprised if we see Vucevic attempting fewer threes in this one to maximize his post edge, which would lead to more offensive rebound opportunities.

PREDICTION: Nikola Vucevic Over 9.5 rebounds (-143)
