We’ve got a busy Tuesday night of NHL betting with eight games on tap, beginning with an Eastern Conference battle between the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals at 6 p.m. ET.

We break down the hockey odds for that game while also digging into the NHL’s top scorer in Connor McDavid, and perhaps the league’s top team in the Vegas Golden Knights, as we bring you our best free NHL picks and predictions for Tuesday, February 9.

NHL Picks for Today

Philadelphia Flyers vs Washington Capitals

The Flyers and Capitals filled up the net on Sunday afternoon, totaling more goals than the Chiefs would score points in the Super Bowl, with Philadelphia winning 7-4.

While your first instinct may be to expect a lower-scoring contest this time around, the track record for both teams suggests that backing the Over may still be the play.

The Caps are fifth in the NHL in scoring with 3.58 goals per game and have the top power play in the league, converting on 37 percent of all opportunities with the man advantage. The Flyers aren’t far behind them, ranking eighth in goals per game with 3.54.

Both sides also can’t keep the puck out of their net, with the Capitals ranking 27th in the league in goals allowed per game with 3.58 and the Flyers surrendering 3.08. Philly has also been atrocious on the penalty kill, ranking 28th in the league with a PK percentage of 70.5.

Betting trends are also leaning strongly in one direction with the Caps 8-2 to the Over in their last 10 games and the Flyers 9-4 O/U this season. Back the Over.

PREDICTION: Over 6 (-122)

Edmonton Oilers vs Ottawa Senators

These teams clashed last night with the Oilers winning 3-1. That’s the third time in the last ten days that Edmonton has defeated Ottawa by multiple goals. Matt Murray was in nets for the Senators yesterday, which means backup Marcus Hogberg will almost certainly get the nod today.

While Murray’s play for Ottawa this season has been subpar, Hogberg has been even worse. The Swede is 0-4 with a 4.54 goals-against average and an .844 save percentage, and in two starts against the Oilers last week he surrendered nine goals on just 47 shots.

The Oilers certainly have flaws too, but elite offensive talent isn’t one of them with two-time Art Ross winner Connor McDavid once again leading the league in scoring with 27 points.

McDavid had an assist last night, which is actually a bad game by his ridiculously high standards. Prior to that contest, the 24-year-old superstar had scored at least two points in seven-straight games, including a five-point performance against Hoglund and the Sens on January 31. Back McDavid to add another multi-point game to his resume today.

PREDICTION: Connor McDavid to score 2+ points – Yes (-120)

Anaheim Ducks vs Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights continue to look like one of the best teams in the league and have cruised to a 7-1-1 start to the year. They dominate puck possession, ranking first in the league in Fenwick For percentage while ranking sixth in the league in scoring with 3.56 goals per game and fourth in yielding just 2.33 gpg.

The Ducks have a solid record of 5-5-2, which is a bit surprising considering how awful they have been on the offensive end of the ice. Anaheim is averaging just 1.85 goals per game and has gone a pathetic 2-30 on the power play.

That’s bad news against a strong Vegas penalty-kill unit and today’s projected starting goalie in Marc-Andre Fleury. The three-time Stanley Cup champion is a perfect 4-0 with a 1.25 GAA and a save percentage of .944 this season.

The Golden Knights are terrific at home, going 21-6 in their last 27 games T-Mobile Arena, and have owned this head-to-head series. The Knights are also 9-1 in the last 10 games versus Anaheim and have covered the puck line as a favorite in five of the last six contests in Vegas. Take the puck line again.

PREDICTION: Vegas -1.5
