Steven Matz threw nine shutout innings Saturday in a 3-0 home victory over Pittsburgh. Matz allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in the dominant outing. Michael Conforto helped lead the Mets offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk. J.D. Davis went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Todd Frazier was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Jason Vargas starts today for New York as he comes in with a 5-5 record, 3.96 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 76 strikeouts over 88 2/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

The Pirates are 3-13 in their past 13 games. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in its last five games versus the NL East.

New York

The Mets are 4-1 in their last five games overall. New York is 5-11 in its last 16 Sunday games.

I don’t know if this is the right time to bet on Pittsburgh, but streaks have to be broken at some point. The Mets aren’t exactly the most consistent unit and I still tend to fade Vargas more than I bet on him. I’m taking a shot on Pittsburgh to get back on the winning side of the coin today behind what should be a much better offensive effort.
