We’re starting to see some separation in at the top of the English Premier League standings—and that’s bad news for a pair of notable soccer betting favorites off to slow starts.

Arsenal and Chelsea might be spending most of the second half of the Premier League betting season in catch-up mode as they enter Matchday 22 not only out of the title picture but trailing several teams in the race for a postseason spot.

As for the top of the heap, Manchester City have extended their lead over rival Manchester United to three points after defeating Sheffield United 1-0 and watching United settle for a scoreless draw with the Gunners.

Here are our top Premier League betting plays for Matchday 22.

Premier League Predictions for Matchday 22

Sheffield United vs West Bromwich Albion

While they claimed just three of a possible six points, Sheffield have to be pleased with having earned anything from back-to-back games against the top two teams in the table. On the heels of a stunning 2-1 away triumph over Manchester United, Sheffield hung tough with powerhouse Man City before ultimately falling 1-0. The big question now: Will there be a letdown Tuesday versus West Brom?

These teams might occupy the bottom two spots in the Premier League standings, but Sheffield have shown terrific form in three of their previous four league matches. They’re also priced sufficiently to make them worth a sizeable bet, given that West Brom have just one victory in 13 away matches on the season. Look for Sheffield to carry their Manchester momentum to victory.

TIP: Sheffield United (-120)

Burnley vs Manchester City

There’s a simple formula for making money on the current iteration of Manchester City—and we’re going back right back to the well for Wednesday’s encounter with Burnley. City have reeled off eight consecutive victories in league play with just one goal allowed over that span, setting the stage for another big result against a Burnley team sitting 18th in the table.

It’s a foregone conclusion that the visitors are going to score: they’ve been blanked just twice in Premier League play, against two formidable opponents in Tottenham and Man United. The same guarantee cannot be made for Burnley, who have been held without a goal in three straight meetings. The Man City win/clean sheet combo is a great play at these odds.

TIP: Manchester City/Both Teams to Score: No (-110)

Tottenham vs Chelsea

The Blues might finally be making inroads in Premier League play, but they’ll face a stiff test Thursday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Chelsea are ever-so-slight +137 favorites for a marquee matchup against a Tottenham side (+187) that is in the mix for a 2021-22 tournament spot…but has just one victory from its previous four home games in league play.

Neither team has given an inch in recent meetings, with the clubs having battled to back-to-back draws with just two total goals scored in those contests. And while past history is in no way an indicator of future results, there’s a path to another low-scoring, tightly-contested game, given that both teams have had tremendous defensive prowess for most of the season.

TIP: Draw/Under 2.5 (+350)
