Reds vs. Cardinals, 9/11/20 MLB Predictions: Castillo vs. Wainwright

National League Central foes meet in St. Louis on Friday night when the Cardinals host the Reds at 8:15 p.m. ET. With Luis Castillo set to oppose Adam Wainwright in the pitching matchup, what’s the play for bettors in this game?

Game Snapshot

919 Cincinnati Reds (-110) at 920 St. Louis Cardinals (+102); o/u 8

Luis Castillo vs. Adam Wainwright

Cincinnati Reds DFS Spin

Jesse Winker left Thursday’s game against the Cubs with back tightness. Winker was pinch-hit for in in the contest with Curt Casali, and we know why. The outfielder should be considered day-to-day for now, but he’ll assuredly undergo some sort of testing/imaging before he can be cleared to play. He’s hit .276/400/.569 so far this season, so this would be a significant loss for fantasy player and the Reds if he has to miss time.

St. Louis Cardinals DFS Spin

After Giovanny Gallegos got hurt, Ryan Helsley took a blown save in the seventh inning of the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader versus the Tigers. Gallegos failed to retire and of the three batters he faced after coming into a 3-1 game. Helsley entered with none out and first base open after a run had scored and was told to walk Miguel Cabrera, even though that brought up the red-hot Jeimer Candelario. Candelario delivered a two-run single, and though Helsley got lucky with a line-drive double play afterwards, he went on give up a two-run homer to Jorge Bonifacio. In spite of the poor showing, Helsley still figures to be in the mix for saves if Gallegos lands on the IL.

Reds vs. Cardinals Betting Prediction

Wainwright is having an outstanding season for the Cardinals. The 39-year-old enters play on Friday with a 4-0 record, a 2.68 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. At this stage in his career, he doesn’t rack up a lot of strikeouts but he doesn’t need to if he continues to generate a lot of soft contact and keep the ball on the ground. He’ll face a Reds lineup that hasn’t been nearly as dangerous as it has the past two seasons. On the other side is Castillo, who is 1-5 with a 3.95 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. He pitched well in his last start, but that came against the light-hitting Pirates at PNC Park. While the Cardinals don’t possess one of the top offenses in baseball, they’re also streaky and racked up 12 runs in just six innings of Game 1’s double-header versus the Tigers on Thursday. I like the value here with St. Louis.
