St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin

Dakota Hudson was brilliant in Saturday’s Grapefruit League outing against the Nationals, striking out three over six scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered just three hits and a pair of walks on his impressive afternoon. He has already won the fifth starter’s job to begin the season and makes for an intriguing fantasy commodity that can be had in the final rounds of mixed league drafts. Over the past week, his average draft position has resided outside the top 350 players overall.

Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Spin

Brandon Woodruff spun 5 2/3 innings while allowing three runs on Wednesday in a strong Cactus League start against the Padres. Woodruff started off rough, giving up a two-run homer to Manny Machado in the first inning. He settled down nicely, fanning eight San Diego hitters while allowing just one more run the rest of the afternoon. Even while giving up the three runs, Woodruff has an ERA of 1.84 ERA in the Cactus League. Whenever he gets the call to be in the rotation — and it could be to begin the year — he’s worthy of roster consideration.

MLB Betting Trends

St. Louis

The Cardinals are just 2-7 in their last nine games against National League Central foes dating back to last season.

Milwaukee

The Brewers won four of Woodruff’s last five starts dating back to last season.

Prediction:

There’s good value in the Cardinals tonight. Not only are they coming off a win in which newcomer Goldschmidt hit three home runs, but Hudson had a fantastic spring training and the Brewers only saw him for 3 1/3 scoreless innings a year ago. Hudson won the fifth spot in St. Louis’ starting rotation, beating out John Gant and showing better command overall. The Brewers can mash, but I like the price I’m getting with the Cards tonight.

The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals +115
